Band of the Week: Max Frost

Band of the Week

Joey Voodoo, Band of the Week, Featured Music Artist, Max Frost, Low High Low, White Lies, Music Videos, Music News, Music, Hip Hop, Soul, Funk, Alternative

Artist: Max Frost

Location: Austin, TX

Genre: Hip Hop/Soul/Funk/Alternative

Label: Atlantic Records

Max Frost was recently named one of NPR’s “10 Artists You Should Have Known in 2013.” His new EP, Low High Low features the single “White Lies” that is currently at Alternative Radio and hit #1 on Hype Machine’s “Most Popular Tracks on Blogs” chart. The companion music video has over one million views and Beats By Dre also featured the single in a commercial earlier this year that included an appearance by Max.

It won’t take long for you to be a fan of Max and his music as his soulful infectious voice will capture you right away. His fusion of musical genres and styles is such a pleasure and done so well it’s no wonder Max is an emerging star. It was a definite honor to catch Max while on tour and ask him a few questions as he is the Joey Voodoo Band of the Week!

Joey: It’s been an exciting 12 months for you…signing with Atlantic, your EP, and now touring with Fitz and the Tantrums. Sum up what the past 12 months have been like for you?

Max Frost: It feels like finally getting the engine started on a car I’ve been working on in my garage for years. Finally seeing the tires hit the road and meeting fans that are responding to the music has been satisfying in a surreal way. It’s all been amazing.

Joey: Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?

Max Frost: Hendrix or the Beatles

Joey: Who would you love to perform a duet with?

Max Frost: Prince or Erykah Badu

Joey: Besides touring what else can your fans expect from you in 2014?

Max: I’ve got a full length album about finished that I plan on teasing with another EP coming very soon. I plan on releasing a lot of music videos in the next 6 months and releasing lots of behind the scenes stuff!

Joey: What’s one of your guilty pleasures while on tour?

Max Frost: I’ve got a mad sushi addiction thanks to my A&R guy Aaron Bay-Shuck that’s got me seeing what’s up with the sushi quality in every city I go to!! I keep it under control just enough not to get mercury poisoning!
